Front and back covers need to be re-attached. 507 pages. 9.75" by 6.5" These early editions of Abbott’s History . . . are profusely illustrated. VOLUME 2: Text, maps, and plates fresh with light scattered foxing. Printed in 1866. Hardcover. B&W Illustrations; Full Leather book cover. The book is in Good Used condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The text pages are generally clean, though there are occasional spots of foxing throughout. The title page is missing, but the owner of book indicated in pencil "(Title p. missing. History of the Civil War- Vol. II by J.S.C. Abbott -1866.) The volume has been illustrated throughout with images of important figures in the war. Generally, this is a solid copy of Vol. II. 629 pages. 9.75" by 6.5" JOHN S. C. ABBOTT: 19th-century American historian and clergyman, Abbott was already known for his popular biography of Bonaparte before the outbreak of the Civil War. At the height of the conflict, Abbott began work on this History, one of his most well-known works. This two-volume chronicle, which is “strongly pro-Union” and anti-slavery, displays Abbott’s skill at bringing the war to life.
